Interactivity and gamification on UMU helps learners actively engage with knowledge, rather than only passively reading training materials. It’s incredible how we were able to accomplish everything we had envisioned right from the start.

About Bayer
  • Bayer is a global enterprise with core competencies in the life science fields of healthcare and agriculture. They design their products and services to help tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges, and to serve the most essential human needs of health and nutrition.
Goal
  • For more than a century, the Bayer brand has stood for competence, quality and trust. People at Bayer take pride in doing things right, which is why they attach great importance to the quality of compliance training delivered internally.
  • As the company issued new sales compliance regulations, the Bayer Corporate Governance Team sought innovative and creative ways to help employees understand the complex guidelines. They wanted the knowledge to stick, but also the experience to be fun, exciting, and motivating.
  • Bayer also wanted the online experience they created to be as straightforward and easy to navigate as possible, so as to further boost engagement.
Solution
  • Bayer used UMU’s built-in gamification to spice up compliance training and transformed the initiative into a thrilling team competition. Alike a sports league, they organized cross-office online events where participants ranked against each other in heated quiz battles.
  • Bayer also created a custom homepage for their training portal on UMU, and avoided text-heavy quiz questions, opting instead for images and other visuals whenever appropriate.
  • After the events, winners were interviewed and those interviews shared on the UMU platform as a way to recognize and celebrate excellence at Bayer as well as incentivize participation in future events.
Results
  • The Bayer Corporate Governance Team considers the initiative a great success. Even though participation in the event was non-mandatory, over 51% of eligible staff participated and engaged with the competition. Among participants, 84% stated that they’d participate again if the next initiative was delivered on UMU.
  • The program sparked a “chain reaction of learning” within the Fujitsu Finplex Business Division, quickly expanding to include over 130 reps in less than 1 month. The event’s interactive and gamified nature was also very effective at filling in knowledge gaps among participants.
